Why Equity Diversity and Inclusion still matters and always will Pt 2.

Updated: Apr 3

1. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is based on love, kindness, compassion and empathy. It is based on the want for all of humanity to succeed not just the few. To want and work towards an Equitable, Diverse and Inclusive society is to be a good person because Equity, Diversity and Inclusion provides better outcomes for all.

2. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion data says it all. Studies have repeatedly shown that diverse teams drive better results. It’s the foundation of workplaces and societies that function well for everyone. Inclusive organisations and communities perform better, innovate more, are more creative and get better results. They are more financially successful, more productive, and more resilient. So, trying to label Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as anything other than good and effective is a lie and ignores the evidence.

3. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion supports the next generation. We want our children to grow up in a better world a world that values them not marginalises them further. The younger generations have grown up with the internet and understand the need for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and expect better from employers, brands, policymakers and society leaders. Those who fail to prioritise Equity, Diversity & Inclusion will be left behind.

So what can we do?

1. Don’t Panic: The ‘anti woke’ narrative is being sensationalised intentionally. In reality a lot of organisations are sticking to their commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, so keep going and keep doing the work.

2. Invest in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion work: whether it’s through training, funding grassroots movements, or challenging discriminatory policies, putting money into this work and amplifying inclusion efforts is important do it because it matters.

3. Call out misinformation: when you see people misrepresenting Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, challenge it. Education is key to dismantling false narratives and these false narratives are harmful to inclusion work.

We will not let the weaponisation of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion stop us from continuing to do the necessary work to achieve social justice. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is essential for a better world for everyone.

So, tell us, at The Inclusion Edit we want to hear how are you showing up for Equity Diversity & Inclusion today?
